Five congressmen assembled into full-force with this so-called “unity and crossroad and highway” idea. So what is this all about?
Filed as House Bill No. 4165 on October 2016, the bill called Muslim-Christian Unity Crossroad Highway seeks to provide construction of two national highways that will connect Lanao del Norte, Lanao del Sur, and Bukidnon including Iligan and Marawi cities.
The said road network will start from the Lanao del Norte Circumferential Road in Tagoloan, Lanao del Norte and ends in Talakag, Bukidnon, with another road that will connect Iligan City and Marawi via Barangay Pugaan, Iligan City and Kapai, Lanao del Sur.
The congressmen who signed this proposal were the following: Mohamad Khalid Dimaporo, 1st District Representative of Lanao del Norte; Abdullah Dimaporo, 2nd District Representative of Lanao del Norte, Ma. Lourdes Acosta-Alba, 1st District Representative of Bukidnon, Frederick Siao, Lone District Representative of Iligan City; and Ansaruddin Adiong, 1st District of Lanao del Sur.
The founders of this bill projects promotion of peace and order in Mindanao. It will benefit not only the provinces mentioned above but it will also generate economic effects in Misamis Occidental, Misamis Oriental, Maguindanao, Cotabato and Zamboanga provinces.
The project proposal was named Muslim-Christian Unity Crossroad and Highway to highlight significance in improving good relations between Muslims and Christians.
As stated in the bill, the proposal is crucial to the economic development of entire Mindanao. An amount of P1-billion is ordered for this project through Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) under General Appropriations Act.
