The Chinese are also eying to build a 10,000-seater convention center in the city

Several projects are to be funded by the Chinese in Davao City. This started even before representatives from China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) have expressed interest to implement various projects in Davao City in a meeting with the Davao City Investment Promotion Center (DCIPC). Mindanao Daily Mirror reported that the China firm is primarily involved in several projects in Davao relating to renewable energy, infrastructure projects (roads, highways, bridges, etc.), waste supply system development, sewerage systems, reclamation and others.
There are several projects that are eyed to be financed by the Chinese in Davao City. The most notable one is the Davao monorail project. Ivan Cortez, head of the City Planning and Development Office (CPDO), announced that the South Koreans who were first interested in the project backed out after they asked for a counterpart investment from the city. “We told them that we cannot forward their project to the national government because it required government subsidy but (as per government policy) every unsolicited proposal should be at no cost for the city,” he said as reported by MindaNews.
But the Chinese saved the day. Jiang Zhiping, planning and management deputy director of the market development center at the China Railway Engineering Consulting Group Co., said in a press conference that his group was keen on pursuing the project. In a Manila Bulletin article, Cortez said the Chinese investor will ask the City Council to allow them do a feasibility study, and get the necessary information on the potential of the city and determine the capacity of the monorail. Accordingly, the coaches will be manufactured in China by the state-owned companies China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation while China Railway Engineering Corporation will be in-charged of the railway construction.
The Chinese also expressed their interest in a possible partnership with Mega Harbour Port and Development Inc. for their P39-B Reclamation Project. Manuel “Jam” Jamonir, one of the CCCC Filipino consultants, said the Chinese construction company is also open to for a joint venture agreement for the Davao City Bulk Water Supply Project. The Chinese are also eyeing to build a 10,000-seater convention center in Davao City.
Mindanao Daily Mirror also reported that the Chinese company is also looking at building two hydropower sites: 140 MW Hydropower Plant with target area at Calinan District and a 30 MW Hydroelectric Power Plant at Marilog District.
