$6 billion is allotted by the Chinese for the Philippines - this in the bag of China's 3rd Vice Premier Wang Yang during his visit in Davao City on Thursday, March 16, 2017. The amount includes agreements for agriculture exports to China, and loans for infrastructure projects such as railways and hydroelectric dams, Inquirer reported.
Mr. Yang's four-day visit meeting Mr. Duterte and other top Philippine officials and businessmen in Davao covers inspection of Sta. Ana Pier, which is part of the proposed Davao Coastline and Port Development project, and briefing on other proposed projects such as the Davao City Expressway and the Mindanao Railway.
Mr. Yang will also visit officials for Davao Airport Project which aims to upgrade the capability of Francisco Bangoy International Airport. It can be recalled that the Regional Development Council (RDC) in Davao Region has proposed for the development of another modern airport facility in the region.
Mindanao Daily Mirror reported that the Chinese are primarily involved in several projects in Davao relating to renewable energy, infrastructure projects (roads, highways, bridges, etc.), waste supply system development, sewerage systems, reclamation and others. The Chinese are also looking at building two hydropower sites: 140 MW Hydropower Plants with target area at Calinan District and a 30 MW Hydroelectric Power Plant at Marilog District, all in Davao City.
In fact, China eyes not only to finance Davao projects but several ones in the country as well such as the Panay-Guimaras-Negros Bridges Project. The $3.01-billion south line of the North-South Railway and the $374.03-million New Centennial Water Source-Kaliwa dam project in Quezon province are also eyed to be financed by the Chinese as well.
The first phase of Mindanao Railway project will run through Davao region, a major change to the original plan which first phase covers Misamis oriental and Lanao del Norte areas. The Chinese promised 218-billion pesos for the railway project.
