The construction of Zamboanga's very first flyover along Gov. Camins Avenue is delayed for months now due to the reason that the project is still on pending status. This was revealed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) through Dateline Zamboanga as the agency is still waiting for the Height Clearance Structure which is to be given by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP).

The construction of Zamboanga's very first flyover along Gov. Camins Avenue is delayed for months now due to the reason that the project is still on pending status. This was revealed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) through Dateline Zamboanga as the agency is still waiting for the Height Clearance Structure which is to be given by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP).
Lately, there were rumors that the project is already cancelled.
The proposed flyover is located near Runway 24 of the Zamboanga International Airport.
CAAP, the governing body of our country's airports, gives regulations to structures that would obstruct runways, making sure of the safety of each airport in the country.
According to Engr. Pilar Rivera, DPWH Project Engineer who is assigned for this flyover project, CAAP was okay with the proposed flyover along Gov. Camins Avenue. What only concerns CAAP are the temporary structures that will be in place once the construction of the flyover begins.
Due to these concerns, CAAP is now urging DPWH to reapply for the Height Clearance Structure for them to discuss and reassess the matter.
Rivera says that once the clearance is given, they can now start the construction of the flyover.
Meanwhile, the road widening on Gov. Camins Avenue is nearing it's completion. A few segment, fronting KCC Mall de Zamboanga and at Sta. Cruz Market is yet to be paved to complete the road widening. See photo below:
The flyover is just one of two proposed flyovers for the city. The other one will be located at Labuan-Limpapa Highway, along San Jose Gusu. It can be recalled that the first flyover project had secured Environmental Compliance Certificate.

QUICKNEWS | Sources say that DPWH Central office dropped the project as local officials that belong to the opposing party which endorsed the flyover project pressured the office to delay it. However, it cannot be validated since the project has been well-planned already by different government agencies which includes National Economic and Development Authority. Another information came out from valid sources who said Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) implemented height restriction on the area where the flyover will be built. No official press release has been made by CAAP and it can be noted that billboards in the area are even erected higher than the proposed flyover.
